Is there a need for a contract or something?

I will be opening a small recording bussiness and I want to know if there is any paper I need to produce and get signed for every project? In order to protect my gear, my place or against lawsuits of any kind like if someone broke his arm running down the hallway or something?

Do you have experience with this?

Regards

If you have a business, you should have business insurance. If you are renting a place or building your own, you will most likely be required to get insurance of some type.

If you're working out of your home and clients are coming to your house, you should probably add an umbrella coverage, which basically covers everything; in or out of the home.

If you are engaging in business with clients you should probably have some kind of contract stating the terms of the service and products you are providing, rates, copyright ownership, etc...

There are a couple of lawyers who pop in here now and then and might be willing to give better advice, but it's always good to consult your own lawyer when starting up a business.
