Hey guys. I just finished a rough mix of this track.

I'm looking for feedback. Here are a few classic metal tracks, I'd like to know how my track stacks up against these tracks. This is how I would like it to sound.

I know these tracks vary from each other, but they all have a great driving metal sound.
To me these tracks seem to be just a bit brighter than mine. I'd like to know if there is anything else you guys notice, and also what can be done to improve my track?

Thanks for taking the time to listen and provide feedback

Hey Ben,

The guitar sound is okay for what you're aiming for. What bothers me in this track is the bass. It's off all the time and it's in the same frequency range as the guitars and that makes the whole sound a little muddy, imho. I'd EQ the bass to get out of the way of the guitars, but also re-record it so it sits on the beats. I first thought the guitars were off, but on a second listen, it's clearly the bass that keeps jumping around the beat. It's dragging in the first part, then speeds up and then starts dragging again.

Regards,

Kristof

Guitars do not sound bad. Bass is a little hot. Not sure yet if I like the tone, but maybe if it was brought down it would sound better.

I liked the guitar sound. They're missing a little "chug" that this genre needs. But the distortion was real good IMO.

Bass sound was a bit sterile to me. Like all the low midrange was sucked out of it.

Overheads/cymbals were a bit too loud. They're missing a little detail, but that might be SOundCloud's fault. Snare was a bit too soft. Kick was a bit soft.

Mixed by a guitar player? lol Turn the drums up. Needs a singer as it's lacking there and I turned it off after a couple of minutes. Good guitar tone though....

Geeze, I wouldn't call JR classic metal more standard chugga chugga NWOBHM.
Too much chugga in you mix - guitars need meat to go with that very toppy sound. Doesn't palm muting take off some of that top end?
