Good job. I'm not familiar with the original, but I like what you've got here.
It sounded like a Warren Zevon song so I had to google it and sure enough. I can definitely hear his style in the song.

Good ear! It's a Zevon tune although most people think it's a Linda Ronstadt song since that version got a lot of air play back in the day.

I knew it from the punk band SNFU. lol

I liked this version too. Almost had a Gin Blossoms sound to it at times.

Never heard the punk version but I know the song has been covered by an hole host of bands. Thanks for taking the time to listen and post.
