New track - missing full sound

Hi,
I welcome any comment on my first track i recorded: mixing, sound, structure, ...
It sounds a bit layered to me and misses a bit of "full sound". Any tips on how i can solve this are also welcome.

Thanks

Guitars don't sound too bad. The weak link is the drums, particularly the snare. The snare is clearly programmed and it has that shotgun effect, including where each hit is identical in velocity. Then, the snare is placed into a different space by its reverb, which seems to differ from the reverb on the guitars. I hear two different rooms in the song, and it adds to the artificial feel.

Can you tell us how you recorded these sounds, and how reverb is applied throughout?

Thanks for the feedback. The drums are indeed 2 channels(kickdrum, snare) and are midi programmed. A reverb effect is then applied to each channel. I am not a specialist on drums(more a guitar player).
Would something like EZDrummer help me out here to get a more real sound? I understand that in EZDrummer the sound of the snare also comes part through the bass drum mic etc..

The snare and drums seemingly have more reverb than the guitars and it makes it sound as if they are recorded in different spaces which takes away from continuity. I am wondering if a dry are sound would fit better.

Also generally speaking you want to be careful with reverb on bass drums. It's not too bad in this case.

Hope this helps!

Yes. You'll still have to tinker with the individual hits, but it'd be a sure improvement over this. Don't expect instant results - you'll still need to put the work in to get a good sound from it, but out of the box it might be a notch up from the drums here. You don't need to be a drum specialist, most of us here are guitar players first. You just need to approach drum writing logically. No one is going to hit every note at the exact same intensity.

Check out some drum writing tutorials on youtube or read the stickies on this site.
