Hey

is there anything inherently bad about the following recording guitar recording. I've uploaded one unprocessed track and one with some e.q. gentle compression and some verb.

the track will make up part of a busier song (vocals, Bass, violin, accordion, french horn)

it was miked with an NT1a about 14" away from the 12th fret. I used a hanging duvet behind me and a big canvas with foam panels stuck on to it standing behind the mic.

any feedback will be greatly appreciated

A solo guitar without context is nearly impossible to judge. It'll all depend on the rest of the mix, how it gels with the other guitars, bass, and vocal. Soloed guitars can sound nasty and thin, but then come to life in a mix where they seem to sit just right.

If tone is all you're after, you're likely to get more responses in the Guitar Tone thread... just an option.

Agree with andrus. It isn't possible to tell how this guitar is going to sound in a mix.

I'll just say that at least it's a good start. There isn't anything horrible about it. I heard some background knocking against the side of the guitar. But that's about it. It had nice richness. Maybe not stellar high fidelity in the upper end. But pretty good.

Ok thank you. I have since restrung the guitar as it hadn't been done for ages. I may re-track it....

One thing, I had to really crank the preamp on my interface to get a decent signal. This obviously increased the room noise, rumble, hiss. The mic was fairly distant. I'm tempted to move in a bit closer, but am worried about the bass getting out of control. It seems recording classical guitar is a trade off between noise and low bass resonance.
