F TRUMP - (Political song) in need of mix feedback.

*Hey guys! I updated this again, and removed the distorted vocals, tweaked some levels and gave more click to the kick. I've also added a 2nd version where I've removed the profanity...if that sort of thing bothers you.*

Regardless if you like Trump or not, we have a tune we’re about to give away, and I’d love some feedback on overall mix balance and if it sounds like the low end is ok.

I’m not looking for a political conversation, this is all about the mix.

Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Generally not a bad mix. The tempo is pretty quick, and the singers had some trouble keeping up. It was tough to make out a lot of the words. At times the vocal was also a little buried behind guitars. Vocal clarity itself sounded pretty good. Just too fast of a tempo mostly.

I liked the guitar sounds. The bass was a little sterile sounding.

As a form of political speech, it was a bit simplistic. Mostly a bunch of ranting and swearing. And I don't care much for Trump myself.
 
Distortion on the vocals make it a bit tough to understand. Not that I care to hear what was sang. :) And I don't mean just the obviously distorted ones. I personally would pull that back a bit overall.

The bass (VST I assume?) also has a washed tone that could be better done with some real bass guitar with a bit of funk presentation, but...you didn't ask about that.

Don't find any low end issues as far as mix is concerned - other than it could be better with a solid bass line. But I'm a bass guy so...I'll STFU.


I appreciate you not wanting a political discussion, but I bet it happens. You won't get it from me as I am over it. :)
 
The song is good. I like the energy in the performances. Your mix is holding you back. Way too compressed. It's causing a lot of harshness that makes the mix hard to listen too. I like the urgency that a reasonable amount of compression would give, but it's causing too many artifacts. Your lyrics are getting squashed too. If you're going to spout left wing bullshit, at least make it intelligible. ;)

Promising song.
 
yeah i cant understand much of anything lol. also i dont think the bass drum is cutting through enough, maybe a bit of side chaining to the bass would help, but i have a tendency to use too much so thats just taste. I like the dry sound to the song tho. just the lyrics are incomprehensible and it sounds flat without the bass drum.
 
Hey guys! Thanks for listening. As a general note, I wanted the vocals to be distorted…almost can’t hear. There are 3 different distortions going on while the choruses are clean.

I did update the track with some of the suggestions. It's not drastically different, but it has been changed.

JIMMYS69: Thanks! Bass is a real bass, and a really good bass player (perhaps you’re better! :) ). There are actually two bass lines layered here. It’s another thing we (as a band) never do (along with distorted Vox)

ROBUS: I tried to pull back the overall compression on this mix (just a bit). This is more of an experimental, giveaway song, so we’re going a little “full tilt”. Thanks for listening!


STEAKFRY: You’re right. the kick is there and (should) have a good thump, but it’s a softer bass…not very clicky.

Boy I can't blame you there. :) I think I and a lot of people feel about the same. "Believe me on this. The number of people who want to blow off steam is simply UUUGGGE. And it's going to be a beautiful wall." And so on. :)
 
I think I'm hearing a new mix. It's still pretty compressed but less so than before. It's a better mix. That stick on the left is too loud and becomes more off-putting when I crank it. If you are mixing at a sensible level, as you should be, don't forget to give it a volume test. Just crank it up until something makes you want to turn it down again, then focus on that thing. You'll hear all sorts of problems that aren't apparent at lower levels.

If you want your vocals unintelligible, you're there. Lyrics matter a lot to me, but I realize not everybody shares my view. Based on what little I can understand, you have the virtue signalling knob turned up too high and the rational discourse knob too low. You might reverse those settings. :thumbs up:
 
First, I really dig the music and how the vocal is sung....regardless of the message lol. But i agree with everyone else....Can't understand very much of whats being said...especially at that part at 1:39.
 
Musically it's really good. I could only make a few words, even fuck trump was garbled. Lyrics to a political song should be understandable and upfront. But, hey, you probably have another 7+ years to get it right. :eek:
 
This song really has potential. You should redo the vocal, focus on getting it intelligible. The lyrics, though riddled with left wing gibberish, are very well written. The song is catchy and topical. You could find an audience for this. Seriously. I can see Antifa blasting it through their boom boxes as they pepper spray bystanders.

I could see a song like this going viral. It's that good. By the lyrics are what are going to sell it to millions of whinging millennials butt hurt over the outcome of an election they couldn't be arsed to vote in. :spank:

;) The audience needs to be able to understand what you are singing.

Digging that much better man.

Sorry about assuming the bass was fake. It more about not hearing string definition. I would only suggest adding a bit more up top to the bass guitar so the notes cut through. Maybe even a bit of overdrive on just the upper frequencies of the bass could help that to cut without being 'clanky'. I do that quite often.

Still could use a slight eq of the vocal so the words stand out a bit better. Thinking a slight nudge around 2.5k might help to get those words more clear.

Overall a great improvement. Props man. :)

Due to a stupid felony conviction for weed 28 years ago, I lost my right to vote. Funny-in a state where that is now legal... I surely wouldn't have voted for Hillary but not sure I would have voted for Trump either. He is a mess. Twas a bullshit vs other bullshit election IMO. Again, absolutely not looking for this to be about politics. It about the music and recording of it.

Interesting, I typically suck at hearing lyrics and I didn't have much trouble on this one. Okay I did towards the end there.
 
Another familiar name from way back! Good to see you're still recording and sounding good. Excellent arranging skills as always.
 
Jumping in at mix 3.

The lyrics seemed pretty intelligible to me on this mix.

The only major thing that stuck out mix wise is that the electric on the right and the acoustic on the left made things seem a touch unbalanced. The acoustic is very crisp and clear while the electric is more ambient and buried. The levels are similar, but the tones contrast a lot.

Also, a lot of people hate Trump besides leftists and anti-facists. You don't have to be an avowed socialist to object to a racist billionaire being president (but it helps). :D

Debate is healthy, regurgitating proven CNN lies is just annoying and hard to take serious. Catchy tune though, I can't wait to hear the one about Hillary. ;)

There is satire in every side to an argument. Sadly the supposed news makes everything look like a joke these days... So let's start/join the joke party! Maybe we will get elected after 4 years of all this bullshit! lol
