Crazy Molly's Pop Song (Opus NO.'s 1 & 2)

Somewhat of a catchy title, Crazy Molly's Pop Song (Opus NO.'s 1 & 2)

Opus #1 is complete but Opus #2 is missing the vocals. It's written for a female vocalist which I am not.

I thought I'd try out the Toontrack EzMix thing which is what I used for guitars and bass.
Seems like every guitar sim available to me was very fizzy. I attempted to neuter the fizz by adding LeCab with varying IR's
but success was marginal.

Does Anyone use Ezmix sims ?
Is there a way to improve tone and realism ?

At this time I don't think I would use this option again.

Any thoughts, ideas, tips ???

I like it. The screamed vocals are especially cool.

The guits are a bit fizzy. I'll try to remember to look up my sim amp chain from this recording to see if that helps you.

The other things that stuck out to me are the bass and the hi-hats. The former could use more low-end. The latter sounds much more like a VSTi when it's isolated by itself (which is an arrangement thing rather than mix, but anyway.)

First, the title reminded me of Molly's Lips. Then, the actual tune had me singing "shake it up baby now!" twist and shout, when it started. :)

The fizz and the masked vocal stood out to me. I'd suggest Amplitube or Joey Sturgis sims. For the fizz, if you keep LePou, you could try a LP filter around 7-8 kHz? Then, the vocal seemed closer to the "woofy" side than crisp or clear. I'd have to see the chain to figure out what's really going on there. Might have been the raw recording, or some EQ thing, not really sure.

Cool song, thanks for posting :guitar:

Would be very interested in guitar sim and chain used in Cha La Head Cha La !!
The bass was giving me a hard time as the low notes were really overwhelming, I agree I neutered too much when finally finding some control.

Thank you for chiming in, appreciate it !!

I really didn't/don't have much of a guitar chain going on(likely the problem)
ezmix sim - Lecab(4get which ir) - had no LP/HP used in Lecab originally. L/R guitar tracks in a parent folder w/hp-eq/compressor - both the L/R tracks were also sent to a buss that had Xcita and I think a different compressor then the parent folder.

Vox also in Parent folder had almost nothing eq wise on indiv. tracks, but had a slight delay, verb and compressor on Parent folder

I somewhat quickly tried to implement a few of your and VHS's ideas

HP/LP on guitars in Lecab, opened up the neuter of low end bass a pinch and did some EQ on vox to try and clear them up.

The original link is still the same and here's the quick re-mix

Thanks for the comments, very helpful :thumbs up:

Ok. First off, we had 4 guitars tracked. We did a dry version of each and one through a small Marshall combo. (You can get really good results just using sims, but philosophically, I like to have a "live" version too)
Then the dry version went through:
LePou's 456 or Hybrit amp sim (same place you got lecab from)
Then we ran that through Ignite's Nadir cab sim
With impulses from Kalth Allen

I think once we had that chain, we basically picked a "speaker" at random and dialed in tone we thought was good on the amp sim. Then cycled through all the speakers til we found one we liked.

Bass sounds a bit better on the new mix.

I love the song. Great feel and great energy. Fun title too. Intro is quite cool if you ask me.

I think the rhythm guitar tone works fairly well on this mix. They're a bit nasly and honky, and kind of have a "digital" upper midrange. But it works for me on this. They're dominating the mix though.

Love the lead guitar. It's a bit loud.

The bass is kind of getting buried. It kind of has a cold/sterile sound. Could use a little more 350hz woof.

Doubled vocals would be cool on this.

Drums aren't too bad. The samples have a bit of a cheap sound. The snare sound doesn't fit this mix. Almost an 80's metal sound to it.

That's a big difference. Think you're on the right path. Did you do anything to the vocal?

I just made some EQ changes to the vox from the 1st ver. to the 2nd ver.
Finally have a chance to dive into it again. Hope 3rd x will be a charm

Hey thanks for the guitar chain info :)
I have the plugins you mentioned, although Lecab just crashed my DAW again :(
I get a way better sound when I am able to put a mic on my cab and track guitars that way then I have yet to achieve with any amp/cab sims. Although that doesn't necessarily guarantee me a better mix every time, just better guitar tones. Bass guitar has been kickin my butt lately. I seem to struggle with bass fairly often, with the one or two lowest notes played in whatever song that seems to devour everything. So trying to tame that can leave the bass line limp and needing a handful of Viagra..............Tips ??

Thanks Again for your help !!

Hey thanks for the input !! Finally just getting the chance to play around with the track again and try out some of the ideas and suggestions you and the other guys offered up.

Good call on the drum sound, you nailed it ! That was EZD2 Mdrn/vint 80's kit
I'll try some other options is this mix I'm about to get on.

Thanks

Yeah, the guitars are definitely digital-fizzy, including the lead, which sounds funky anyways.

Thanks for checking it out, gonna have another go at this now
