I think its turning out good so far. Something in the chorus seems muddy or bassy. Maybe the guitars? Maybe the bass is masking something? Idk. The guitar lead is giving me trouble too. Any tips or opinions from you guys are much appreciated

Drums are too on front, the guitars are DI? They need some EQ, try removing the low frequencies, you could use less distortion, the bass is fighting with the distorted guitars. The clean guitars I'll try to bright them up, use compression and pan them 100% L/R to open the sound.

Practice the guitar solo before recording it again, put special attention on the bends, the guitar player isn't getting to the notes making the solo feel like is out of tune. Also use less distortion, that is good for a live concert, but not in the studio.

Vocals need some reverb, eq, compression and tuning, not in that exact order, but all of them.

Add another mix and many guys here will help you step by step.

Typing while listening:

I like the tone of the lead guitar at the beginning, good use of effects on it.

Like others said, drums just a bit too up front in the beginning. Maybe make that guitar lead line louder? Or drop the drums down a bit.

Rhythm guitars are really fizzy, not a whole lot of body or definition to them. Sound like they need a bit less dirt, but if you can't rerecord they could use more mids. They also seem to be panned too wide. You want them left and right to fill out the space, but it seems like they are outside of the mix almost, off to the side of it. I'd try moving them a bit closer to center. Beefing them up might make it so you don't have to repan them though. The middle just seems empty to me when it's supposed to big during the chorus.

I like the tone of the singer's voice, nice and gravelly/gritty. Vocal track sounds good!

The dirty guitar lead could be redone, like others mentioned the bends could be a better.

I like the song, it's got potential to sound awesome! Reminds me very much of Alice in Chains. Looking forward to hearing more as you work on it!

The kick is really loud. And yeah the drums are sitting on top of everything until the distorted guitars kick in.

I think a double tracked vocal might work well. The vocal is really dry. Little pitchy around 3:30. A very good vocal performance however.

And I agree that the distorted guitars have too much gain. They're fizzy.

The lead guitar might have a string that was out of tune.

Bass is a little indistinct and tough to hear.

Well, when I first started this mix there was a horrible muddiness to the guitars in the chorus so I scooped out tons of low mids. Was that bad? Should I have tackled the bass instead? I can't record anything again. I'll turn the drums and kick down for sure. How can I make the bass sit better in the chorus. Should I start with returning those guitar mids? The vocal is already tuned, eqd, compressed, whoever said that.

I think the fizziness in the guitars is simply in the recording. You might be able to help a small amount by using an EQ notch somewhere between 6K - 8K. Real thin and maybe -10dbs. But it's not going to help much - if at all. I know you said you can't record it again, but that's what would be needed to get the fizz out.

Ditto for the bass. try a compressor with a long attack (~100 msec) and a quick relase (~80 msec). Set the threshold so you're pulling down maybe 4-6 dbs of gain reduction. Might help a bit, might not. But again the indistinct notes are in the recording. There's only so much you're going to be able to do.

"Wrong" is maybe a strong word. But to my ear, there wasn't a lot of distinction in notes. The bass line just kind of blended together as a continuum, instead of distinctly heard notes. And keep in mind, it's just one guy's opinion.

Alright it's re-uploaded. I turned up the bass. Panned the guitar I had on the right to the center and recorded a third guitar on the right. I made eq changes on lots of things and compressed some things harder. What do you think now?
