Here's another one I've been working on for my friend. As I've been working on these songs, I've been upgrading my rig, mostly with new plugins, but also learning quite a bit, and as a result, I think I'm going to have to go back through all the prior mixes and update them. That's life, I guess. I'm starting to like the results, but it takes me forever to get there. As we get more experienced, I imagine we get faster, but I've got a long way to go. I still can't imagine successfully mixing an album's worth of songs over the course of a couple of days.

Anyway, I'm going for loudness while attempting to preserve clarity - the first part of this song is quiet, and it ends in a sort of a crescendo, which is probably a full 8 dB RMS above the beginning part, which must stay low. I *could* raise the level of the first part of the song with automation to get a flatter overall shape and bring up the average RMS, but that seems like a bad thing to do.

Thanks again for listening and all the helpful comments on the earlier songs - here's the link:

all criticism is welcome. I have nothing to do with the songwriting or performance (wish I did), or tracking, but I can pass comments along. Mixing tips and observations are greatly appreciated.

There's some sort of noise in the background.
The effects on the voice work pretty well but do push the essiness a bit.
Sounds pretty good but for the noise.

where my post go ?

brilliant,really enjoyed that thanks :-)

would bring the backing up at the end and widen the drum panorama, imo drums are to low

great recording/mix

cool - The noise is probably either coming from his single coil pickup or it's coming from some waves plugin that I forgot to turn off the noise for (why do they do that?). Or maybe it's something else. I must have desensitized myself to it - I'll have to go back. I ran a de-esser before the reverb/echo - maybe I'll play with the order somehow

the drums are really just 4 tracks of one drum (a snare that he hit in different ways) plus a sampled kick - I bet I can get a wider image if I mess with it, though.

thanks!!!!

Great track. Songswriting-wise i keep waiting for a bridge part , but maybe Im just old fashioned. The sound is awesome. I dont hear the noise mentiined above. Nice work, i say!

I think it's pretty great just as it is. That tiny bit of background noise doesn't bother me at all.
