Tracking/Mixing Vocal

Hello Guys,

Been doing a lot of experiments on vocal but sad to say no luck on what I really want.

How do you make the main vocal dead center, small and clear?

Everytime I track my vocal from MXL V67 thru my mixer with flat EQ settings in to my track, when I playback, I hear the vocal in full range frequency, I hear the sub up to the highest frequency, it is at the center but big or should I say fat.

How do you usually get that to center, small and clear?

I dont know if Im doing the right thing but I usually, kill the sub and a little portion of the bass all the way down. This will make it sound like a telephone then I bring down mids to make it clear and harshless. Or maybe I just have a crappy equipment.

You're skipping a very important step in making anything sound good. You're not mentioning anything about your tracking.

How are you tracking??? How is your room (probably most important)??? How far from the mic are you singing??? All these things are far more crucial than anything you'll do in the mixing stage.
