Need some punkrock vocal tips

What good basic (plugin!) tricks are there to spice up punkrock vocals? (The stooges/Sex pistols/yelling style)

Parallel compression will do wonders, some gritty distortion on the parallel track, and maybe some distortion on the main vocal track.
Crush the hell outta the vocal in general.

Lo-fi or the stock digidesign distortion plugin will work, if you're a ProTools guy. Otherwise, whatever stock plugins on your DAW will do the trick.

That seems like a good idea, and I don't disagree (it wouldn't hurt), but if you listen to most punk tracks they're pretty clean. A lot of the energy comes from the drum kit overheads. Even the guitars are relatively clean in a lot of punk. The best thing I can say about this is give a good vocal delivery. Punk is all about the delivery. Elvis Costello had a great line once about Johnny Rotten, something to the effect that he's a horrible singer but a great vocalist. That's punk. Forget the plugins and give the delivery.
