Multi-band compressors. How? Where? When?

I literally never use MBC on anything, only one I would ever use is the fabfilter multiband, because it corrects the phase issues and it sounds really good, the cubase one is pretty good but I don't like the way it interferes with phase, and it's very obvious on good monitors, you can hear it straight away. I'd rather use EQ to remove harshness or even better....move the mic when recording.

There are different ways to design MBCs. If it's done with crossovers it's going to have that phase problem between bands. If it's a level sensitive eq it won't.

There are things a static change like eq or mic placement simply can't do.
