Mixing in mono.

A somewhat related question ... I want to run my live PA in mono. I have a single RCF EVOX 8 line compact line array powered speaker system, and a Soundcraft UI-16 mixer. The mixer does not have a summed mono output - just mix-L and mix-R. I do not pan any of my channels. Do I simply send either the mix-L or mix-R output to my speaker, or do I need to sum the mix-L/R somehow?

That'd do it. Center panned go to both equally, each is a mono send.
(You wouldn't sum outputs w/o a mixer or combiner circuit BTW.

The only thing you would have to consider is if you are sending a stereo signal from something into a stereo channel on the mixer (MP3 player, keyboard, FX unit, computer audio out). If you are sending one of these, you'll need to send each side (L and R) to a different track input (both to L of channel 11 & 12, for example).

I usually prefer to send both outputs anyway just for the sake of redundancy. If something goes stupid with one side (bad cable or whatever) in the heat of battle, you've still got the other. If they both work fine you kind of get a "free" 6db boost.

I'll also have a reference mix in mono/stereo to listen back too.
I'd normally do go back to them every 2-3 changes I do when mixing.
Keeps me on track!
