how would one mix a 808 and a bassline for hip hop

the 808, kick and bassline dont ever mesh well for me. might be the space i mix in though. any good settings to recommend eq, compression reverb or no reverb ect. ect. ect.

Use a reference track and try to get it as close as possible to that. You can also layer samples for the kick and I personally like to use sidechain compression to duck the bass out of the way about 3 to 6 db if the kick isn't coming through. You can also try adding a hint of distortion to the bass if that's not coming through enough. Just make sure you give the bass and kick their own spot in the frequency range on the low end. Little tweaks should get you there if you already have good source material.
