high volume monitor question

My left monitor at high volumes cuts out and becomes a real light distorted version of what should be coming through. The monitors are brand new and the other side does not do it. Should I return them and get a new pair or is there something I'm missing?
 
These are active monitors right?

First swap them left and right to see if the problem is still with the same speaker. If it continues to come from the same side, not the same speaker, then it's a problem with your soundcard or mixer that's driving the speakers. Otherwise, you should definitely take them back.
