Cubase 4 - in which order do plug ins on tracks as inserts?

New to this recording stuff - is there a 'default' order in which insert plug ins should be applied?

Reverbs on FX channel

I would place the gate before the compressor as you have suggested. And yes the reverb is typically on a 'send', not as an insert.

I would add that I have found very little use for a gate in most situations. Manual editing is more accurate for me. Maybe I have too much time on my hands. But I would definitely use any type of volume or dynamic control before an enhancement effect in a chain. Not that another instance of compression would not be an option after an effect.
