A/Bing a mix with the original

I've been mixing a pretty complex (for me) song that had lots of volume "issues" and needed EQing. I'd like to be able to quickly and easily A/B my mix with the original, but I'm not sure how to do that since I have just stems that I imported into Reaper. I'm thinking I could load the stems into a new project and then export it as an MP3 and load it into my Reaper project and just mute/solo it to do the A/B comparison.

Is there a better way to do this kind of thing?
 
That is the way I do it. The trick is dealing with anything on the master buss. When you render the old mix, do it without anything on the master buss.
