OK to post covers here?

My apologies if this topic has been covered before, but I want to make sure I don't step on a landmine.

I record myself and my band quite a bit. I am trying to get better at all of the stages: recording, mixing, mastering, etc.

We record almost exclusively covers of other people's stuff. Is it OK to post cover recordings here for help and advice mixing? Or is this forum primarily for original music? If for original music only, where could I get help with cover mixes?

Thanks :-)

Hi! Welcome to the boards.

Yes! Covers are fine. People post them all the time. If you're looking for mix advice and feedback tho, the correct subforum is the MP3 mixing clinic. This subforum is more for posting your raw stems and letting other people mix them.

Legally, you need a mechanical license to record a cover. You can get those from the Harry Fox agency. That license is needed whether you intend to make money or not.

But, unless you are reeling in the dough with a cover, no one is going to care or spend any effort coming after you with a lawyer.
