Hey all, so in the spirit of mixing practice, figured I would share that the creative commons website freesound.org is having a little challenge involving downloading user submitted sound effects and crafting a musical track from it. deadline is May 31. Not sure how many will be submitting but it's a pretty wild way to get some practice.
Many of the online sounds won't make the mix well. ...easy....

BTW did you know that you can't really use 100% the sounds for free? Some actually require clearance to release under a commercial track
 
Oh in a commercial environment absolutely. They have a list of their licenses and it's your responsibility to check to see whether each track is creative commons or something a bit more careful. For the sake of the competition any and all can be used since it's not for profit.

Wonder how that would apply if you used them as live sound effects for theatre productions or something?
 
That's a pretty cool idea. I don't know how much more I could do than a couple fun procedurally-generated drum loops.

Anybody want to collaborate on this, maybe?
