Reel to Reel Tape saturation

Quick question Dave - how do you reduce the gain of your 202? As far as I can see the input level is fixed so I ended up making an attenuator cable for mine.

Sorry James, that was me being sloppy. You cannot of course reduce the sensitivity* of the 202. What I should have said was the 'level' in the Windows Sounds menu is pulled back, it is at 100% by default and needs to be around 5%. Yes for many signal sources the actual RCA inputs will clip. I made up a pair of 47k log pots in a tin with civilized connectors for knockabout recordings of amps at work. Unfortunately I never got to do anything with that. The Big C intervened.

" One volt rms for 0dBFS and since that is about the sensitivity of a lot of common A/D converters (ref: D.Self) I suspect the input stages are just buffers.

Dave.
