I frequent the "Pentode" and "Tape" controls on the HEDD...

I can tell you one thing that still stands with me -- And this is where the "if the plugs were as good as the hardware" thing comes in --

I don't (didn't) use Pultecs often for mastering (although if you had a pair that would actually pair up nicely, I wasn't against in by any means and sometimes it's really the only thing that will do). Several years ago, I bought the UAD Pultec (actually at the time, I believe it was part of the package). That plug to this day is (IMO) the best hardware emulation of anything I've ever heard. I don't miss hardware Pultecs one tiny bit with that plug handy.

That said - I don't know if I'd ever actually consider them a "staple" for mastering engineers in the first place... But no doubt, they have a wonderfully unique quality to them (even just switching them on - And that was the first thing I found with UAD - They captured "that sound" a Pultec has even with it zeroed out).

I have used the MEQ a few times ( I def understand finding the pair to make a solid gel fit were aint it ?) Yea just wanted to ask the question cause I am not seeing them anymore. I see me sontec & wises and passives than I do Pultec. Even in the digital world. In the digital world I like the SPL Passive EQ really nice plug. Guess Im gonna have to pull up mu UAD pultec and check it out.

Q10 for mastering, It's extremely transparent.

I also like C6 which is NOT transparent but is definitely useful for mastering.
