Can anything be done about clipping that isn't clipped?

the smartest thing to be done, is to re-record the tracks that are clipped.
do it proper, rather than fix a mess.

If the clipping is downstream and the wave form doesn't actually display a flat-top clipped shape - i.e what you've got is essentially a recording of the sound of clipping, is there anything that can be done?...
If the wav isn't clipped, where is the problem?

Izotope has a dclip module of their RX plugins and all the other RX offerings. Not cheap though ... retracking might save you some $$$.

You can't go by the wave form. If the clipping is recorded it's there period. All a software could do is filter it some. Rerecord it. But also make sure you don't have a plugin that could be clipping. Because that would be post the preamp but not recorded until you render your output.
