subsequent releases of the same songs

Maybe somebody knows the answer to this and can save me the price of a phone call to LOC.

Step One: I apply for and get an SR copyright for an album of songs that I write and record - I work the SR copyright so the one $30 registration covers both the songs and the performance of them. Nice.

Step Two: later on, I find some people to collaborate with me on a new and different recording of those same songs. I don't have to re-register the copyright of the songs obviously, cuz I've already done that, but what about the new recorded versions of those songs? Can I apply for a new SR copyright, this time copyrighting only the recording of the songs?

LOL

You're gonna make me call LOC, aren't you... :D

That's okay, I've done it before, and it was useful. That time, I got the answer to my question, but the person I spoke was definitely in 'disclaimer' mode. It's really 'cover your ass' territory, all this copyright registration malarkey, isn't it?
