Records and copy right of classical

hey guys(and gals) I just got a bunch of cool vinal and there is a record of some classical recordings that i would like to use as samples into my giga sampler and play from a controler but im worried if i do that ill be infringing what is the statute of classical songs play by like seventys orcestras and conductors.

Hi reco, you have the right idea. You can record anything you want by one of those way-old dead guys (be careful and make sure they're dead long enough! You might get a shock if they're from the last 100 years) and you won't have to pay royalties, but the performers' modern recordings are still under copyright, so whatever rules go for sampling still apply.
 
Reco, you'll need to determine if the recorded performance is considered public domain, not just the composition. In some cases, recordings of classical pieces are considered proprietary, even though the piece is free from copyright.

They usually state this info in the liner notes.
