My Album Cover... Thought I'd share....

Wassup ya'll. I know I'm not the most active member in here...lol. But I read alot of stuff... thought I'd share my finished album cover and things with ya'll.

I ain't into the mainstream Hip-Hop, not my steez. I'm on the underground Knowledge Hip-Hop steezo, as some of you may know from listening to a few of my tracks.... Therefore, what I was aiming for with my album cover, was more of an abstract conceptual feeling... somewhere in between dark and grimy, to comforting and inviting... I hope I accomplished that.

Lemme know what ya'll think... BTW, all the art was done by me in Photoshop.

real nice

yeah, i like the cover. it is has a nice clean proffessional look. the font is nice. did you design the font yourself?

Actually, I found that font at www.freefonts.com and it's called "diediedie"

I design covers for people, but not for free. I put almost 12 hours into designing these covers.

I don't charge near as much as most freelance designers... usually only $50.00 for a standard Front and Back cover... it comes out to about $25 a page... But I'm willing to work with people, and help them out if they can't afford it.

Color screen print is where they tax you...

Anyways.... I'm digging the cover for sure. Simple and plain but... As I've worked in a few areas I think the name 1st then the title should be bigger. You should never make the customer have to strain to see it.... Cat's are lazi and will really overlook your product...

Also...

You may be thinking that curiosity and simplicity will attract people to the product but that's really backwards thinking. Familiarity... You won't walk up to a group of old wrinkled church ladies before you walk up to a bunch of hip hop heads will you? In a room full of police uniforms i'll holler at the janitor in the corner first to see what's the deal. To be honest your targets will probably be to busy mugging at the latest hot rap cats huge ass display wondering why he's selling those millions to even notice your plain package honest ad cd.

To be completely honest with you... I have had tons of promos cross my hands and I honestly have been in a position where I have let many free cds pass me by. WHY? Cause even it it's free you gotta look at a cd package like this.... I'd probably look at the cover and think on it a little... If it catches me (for whatever reasons) i'll flip it over and kinda look at the titles... Backwards letters and hard to read words… My head hurts from this 9 to 5 and I don't wanna think and I just wanna hear something tight. I'd probably trash your hard work. I've done it before... Even missed out on some good work...

This is not meant to offend or discourage but it's just what I can hit you with from experiences I’ve had. Knowing that somebody dropped that $2 to whatever dollars + time and I chunked it kinda made me fell like what the hell can I expect cats to do with my shit. That's why I'm posting up. Even worse is putting a cd in the deck after convincing yourself to go ahead give and try it after a few days and realizing it really was the garbage it appeared to be.

HONESTLY... HOW MANY CATS READ THRU THE SONG TITLES?

Cuz maybe it's just me....

PEACE...

I respect your opinion, I truly do. But you have to understand, I'm not marketing the product towards you.

I despise the current state of hip-hop. I hate mainstream hip-hop with an uncontrolable passion. The "Bling-Bling" and fake studio gangsta's are a dime a dozen nowadays.

I hate Cash Money, I can barely tolerate 50 Cent. The "durdy souf" Rap is annoying, and in no way, do I intend to be a part of the "majority" of what the "fake" industry has become.

I don't make my albums to get a huge record deal, nor do I try. I don't want one. I won't sell out on my beliefs to be a "Rich rapper"... it's not about money to me. It's about knowledge, and growing from experience, and empowering others with that same knowledge.

My last album sold a measly 3000 copies. All sold at shows and performances... I basically broke even on it. I hope to do the same with this album.

No offense taken from your post homie... but you have to understand that I'm the opposite of you. I saw the other album covers posted in here. With the Hum-V's, the houses, and the Iced out lettering...... that's hipocritical and pathetic to me. Honestly, one of the dopest album covers I've ever seen, that caught my eye, was the cover to "The Marshall Mathers LP" because it was so real. That picture on the cover told more than 1000 words... If it would've had Em on the cover, all drapped in Ice and surrounded by "big booty hoes" and chromed out vehicles... I never would have picked it up...

I do understand I'm the minority in hip-hop nowadays. Because "Ice" and "hoes" is what sells... but that ain't me... and it will never be me. So, I guess, I'ma do me, and hope it gets me where I want to be, because selling out to mainstream views isn't in the cards for me...

I'm going to continue even knowing that this post has the potential to take a pretty bad turn... If it hasn’t already… Feel me?

I respect your opinion, I truly do. But you have to understand, I'm not marketing the product towards you.
Why? You don’t like me? You don’t even know me… I guess it’s… Fuck that dude cuz he’s from the south and blingin on the dubbers (LOL)… He wouldn’t get it anyway... He’s one of them “dirty souf” fools. He’s around here talking about DAVID BANNER… They’re part of the reason hip hop is fucked up now… (LOL)… Maybe so…. (LOL)…

I know it’s nothing personal against me but you never really know how a cat gonna get down. I’m just running my mouth though…

Naw for real though… I know you aren't marketing to me and that's a shame cuz I want some of that good knowledge to. Guess I just gotta stay throwed in the game…

I despise the current state of hip-hop. I hate mainstream hip-hop with an uncontrolable passion. The "Bling-Bling" and fake studio gangsta's are a dime a dozen nowadays.
Sometimes you must infiltrate a little to make the biggest changes... You don’t even wanna be around those cats though huh? Not even in the same cd deck… Not on the same shelf or nothing… How you gonna get people to see the light and you won't even say "Look here bruh"? You saying I got some shit to say but then hide it in obscurity. I don’t get that…

My last album sold a measly 3000 copies. All sold at shows and performances... I basically broke even on it. I hope to do the same with this album.
3000 at shows… Damn that’s pretty good…

Repeat that… That doesn't sound like your about growth to me. Don't you want better for yourself and those around you? It ain’t about the money no doubt… Is it about quality of life? Cuz if so then you should try to make a living off of this? If you can make a living doing what you love then we all gotta agree that’s a positive.

No offense taken from your post homie... but you have to understand that I'm the opposite of you. I saw the other album covers posted in here. With the Hum-V's, the houses, and the Iced out lettering...... that's hipocritical and pathetic to me. Sorry but you don’t know me and never bother’d to try… Where are your questions to me? Just statements saying you got it on lock and you’ll be you and I can be me.

You may really feel like that but remember what I said about your target… They come in to buy that underground cd and sit there remembering every overdone detail on a MASTER P cover. Why? They are obviously attracted to it…Hmmm… I think it’s because their anger, hate, and jealousy is stronger than their love. Now that’s just my thinking but I just don't really know why they remember those covers and artists bveven though they may never hear em. Also… It’s always funny to hear a guy making fun of songs like “My Neck, My Back” but the fool knows they shit word for word and even saying the shit at the exact rhythm. I don’t run around claiming to hate songs, singing the shit, and knowing it word for word… I believe that’s called hating…

I don't know whether you did or not but did you comment in that thread?

Turning every rapper you dislike into a crab in your bucket. I’d rather push that sucker off my head and out the buck… Even if it means I gotta hold him up higher… Better yet come with something better and force them to do better.

Ohh… Eminem had a name already… Big company backing him with big ass diplays and had already nailed down his target… Flashy videos and a gang of shit talking… And white… With three thousand sells and hand to hand at performances you probably wouldn’t need to change anything. My point was from the store shelves…

I do understand I'm the minority in hip-hop nowadays. Because "Ice" and "hoes" is what sells... but that ain't me... and it will never be me. So, I guess, I'ma do me, and hope it gets me where I want to be, because selling out to mainstream views isn't in the cards for me...
I feel it’s a lot more cats thinking like you then we see… Because you’re all down to stay in your shells nothing really pops. Nothing ever changes… I ain’t tring to change your thinking though… Still I know you gotta maintain morals and integrity if that’s what you hold dear (I may be the devil with a slick tongue so don’t listen to me). Some people hold cars and clothes closest to their hearts and will squash your integrity for that. I just believe cats should grow at what they claim to love so much even it meansa compromise here and there. Shit you'll try to make your girl happy even tough you aren't 10/10 with some of her b.s...

Uhh... That’s a long post with scattered thoughts… I probably should’ve left it alone but ya know…

My whole points really is… I think you should make the Name and title bigger and the writing on the back a little more understandable… Ohh and put some porn chicks on the front porch… And I don’t see your whips… Maybe Photo Shop some in… LOL…

It’s all love cuz… I honestly like the cover myself but just wondered about how I would see it if stacked in a box of 30 other promos… After looking at it again I think i'd probably give it a run.

Peace and good luck to ya...

i rather spend my time telling someone all of the positive things about them then negative, but when you squat like a female with no aim and try to piss on me, then i must retort.

look homey, it's cool to have your own opinion and everything, but think before you open your MOUF. i gave you props on your artwork because i felt where you was coming from. your cd cover said "hey, i'm simple and plain you probably wouldn't want to know about my life if you are into having fun, but if you would like to sit on my porch and have some coffee and listen to my narcoleptic reality then buy this cd".

why are you even in here? the name of the forum is dj/hip hop/rap/beats not fake ass/concious daughter ass/wanna be's.

this is how I look at hip hop. iced out chains, clothes, and big cars are symbols to rappers just as; medallions, horses, swords, armor, horses were symbols to knights, just as war paint, spears with feathers/ tribal engravings, darts with feathers/tribal engravings, pottery are symbols to african and asian warriors. in short, it's a culture CLOWN.

you have a pretty shallow mind with a very minute understanding of what's going on outside of your little monochromatic reality.

It's gravy homie. Seriously, no offense taken, nor intended.

(LOL)…

For real, I didn't mean to stereotype you into that category. But from what I've read, you're really not an "underground" head. You most likely will pop in a David Banner CD, or a Nelly CD before you'd listen to Aesop Rock, Jedi Mind Tricks, or 4th Avenue Jones. Now that's my assumption, and I may be wrong... but cats who vibe off of Nelly or David Banner, will most likely NOT feel my joints. I'm dark, grimy, and I make you think. A lot of cats hate that, and I understand that... so I don't care to market my product towards them.

I feel you homie. But I've turned down two record deals already, because the label's thought I should be more "commercial". I've been told many times "You got a great flow, and your voice is dope. You just need to make it more listener friendly, something the radio charts want to play." ...lol... I won't do it. I make my music by a motto I live by "Don't comprimise to be recognised." Like I said.. the money means nothing to me.

I'll agree with some of that. I'd love to be able to make a living off of my music, but so far it hasn't happened, and I'm ok if it never does. My quality of life is great as is, I make great money at my job, I'm married to a woman I love, I own a house & 3 cars, and I'm able to make the kind of music I enjoy. I'm cool with that.

Why? I don’t run around claiming to hate songs, singing the shit, and knowing it word for word… I believe that’s called hating…

I understand where you coming from. But I have a real problem... see, if I hear any song at least twice, I can remember most of the lyrics, especially if they're simple. However, it doesn't mean I like it... you feel me? I just have an unnatural ability to remember lyrics to songs. :D (It pays off on stage)

Also, my target audience is generally attending my shows. I don't sell my stuff at the local record stores. I probably could if I wanted to but, I've never tried. Most of my sales come from word of mouth...

I don't know whether you did or not but did you comment in that thread?

Which thread? The last Album cover thread? No I didn't comment. I didn't want to be rude to whomever put in time and effort into their work. Because I thought it was unoriginal. I don't like to conform to the norm.

Turning every rapper you dislike into a crab in your bucket. I’d rather push that sucker off my head and out the buck… Even if it means I gotta hold him up higher… Better yet come with something better and force them to do better.

Remember Em's first CD cover? Commercially I mean... just a photo of Paul on the Dock with the body in the trunk... nothing flashy at all... But he's way different than me. He's a diss-head, and a battle cat. I get your point about store shelves, and I agree. I just don't intend to push my product there. Not unless I was to get a record deal.

I feel it’s a lot more cats thinking like you then we see… Because you’re all down to stay in your shells nothing really pops. Like I said before, I won't compromise to get recognised. I'm incappable of doing so.

I actually tried it with the Name and title bigger, I didn't like it... from a "graphic designers viewpoint" nah mean? By the way, I originally had a phot of my car on the cover...lol... but I took it off. :D

With all that said... you got any "commercial" beats that I could rip underground style ;)

I love the beats... I just despise the message, or lack there of... :D

Actually, I used to feel the same way as you. It is a culture, and I live it and love it.

I don't have a shallow viewpoint however... I wear the clothes I love, I wear my platinum chains and watch... but what I despise is the "focus" on it. The message that money is everything, when it's not. There is much more to life than obtaining status through "Ice". It doesn't last, and it's frivolous...

Shallow, not at all homie. I lived the life of a drug dealer, a gang member, and a "gangster". Something happened that caused me to open my eyes, and see that there was more to life.

See, this is why I never gave my opinion in the first place.

This is what I hate most about our Hip-Hop cultere. Everyone is on the defense. It's all about who's iller... too much pride. Pride is a downfall.

When you're ready to converse like a grown man, as LAZI and I are doing, I'll give you a warranted and thoughtful response. Until then, cest la vie.

wearing a platinum jewelry creates focus whether you want it to or not. you have to be sending out some type of message about your status quo if you are wearing it playboy. you just contradicted yourself.

Nah, I don't wear them daily... only for shows or performances. It's not the "focus" though. That's my point dogg.

Okay... see if you can feel me on this. If I do an entire album based on knowledge and truth (my opinion ;) ) and put an Escalade on Dubz on the cover... I contradict my message in the music... That's a contradiction.

Wearing a Carolina blue Phat Farm suit with a platinum chain isn't. It's a "part" of who I am, but not the focus.
