question from a newbie

Hey, everyone. I've been playing guitar and developing my overall studio skills for a while, but want to get into doing remixes and more electronic music and production (beat creation, sequencing patterns, etc.) Can anyone recommend what software I'd want to get?

I hear a lot about Reason, ReCycle, Fuirty Loops, etc. but I'm not really sure what they do specifically and which I would need... I'm fairly comfortable with some studio software (Sonar, Sound Forge, ACID), but am looking for something that's fairly easy to learn but with no severe limitiations...

Any input would help. Thanks much!

For what it's worth, I sequence lots of beats, melodies, etc. using a program called modplug tracker (www.modplug.com). It's got some serious strengths and weaknesses and may or may not be better than software you already know about. Should be good for beats at least, though, and is freeware.

Yeah, ACID really limits flexibility. Something like CoolEdit or SAW would likely suit your needs better than ACID.
