Wussup. i just wanted to ask on how some of the hip hop/rap producers on this board get good grooves/basslines,etc. going when doing a track. meaning any techniques or other approaches you use when composing a track. im just curious to learn some new ways to do it for those damn awful times when i get producers block, and just see what type of ways there are.
thanks

Not sure exactly what you're asking but since no one else responded ...

- Start playing around with a sound and find a cool little melody or chord progression.

- Mess around with an arpeggiator and find something cool.

- Take a piece of an old beat and tranpose it or throw a wild effect on it.

- Start with an instrumental loop (like a guitar) and build off that.

- Build to an acapella track.

I use all the above methods, but I usually will start with a chord progression. It makes building the rest of the tracks easier because I know what notes will work.

My bass lines usually follow the root note of the chord progression or sometimes the 5th.

It is definitely good to have multiple ways of producing.
