What's a breakbeat?............... (waiting for the laughter to die down)......... Seriously... I mean, I know what breakbeat rhythms sound like, but can somebody explain to me in words or symbols how they're structured? Old Skool? Nu Skool? And maybe some good clear examples?

Thanks!

There are many definitions of what we call a "breakbeat".

I am short on time so i will only share one or two examples with you. :)

Some examples of some ol' school breakbeats are ...

"Just Begun" by Jimmy Castor (???)

"Misdemeanor" by Ronnie Laws

"Good Times" by Chic

"Backstrokin' " by Fatback

"School Boy Crush" Average White Band

But....., you only use the "break'. :D

Some examples of new school breakbeats (the type used by TURNTABLIST) are

"Booger Breaks" by Q-bert from The Ultimate Skratch Pikilz (That's how they spell their name)

"Super Duck Breaks" by Babu from the Beat Junkies

You also have "literally" (sp?) drummers that make various simple and complicated drum patterns.

There is also a whole form of music called "BREAKBEAT".

I'm outta time, but I'm sure somebody will have something to say about this info...:D

peace
