    Adding sub-bass using bass guitar

    Hi guys,

I'm using an MPC and putting together beats just from hardware (i.e. no laptop), I'm looking to lay down some sub-bass on top of a few of my loops, ideally starting with a bass guitar but just adding a low pass filter and compression isnt doing it.

See what I mean (bass starts after 30 seconds or so)

I'd much rather use an actual bass as i'm not into starting with a sine wave- happy to buy some gear etc. but I just don't know where to start.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

The lowest note on a bass guitar is about 40Hz. Drop it an octave if you want sub. I have no experience with your gear, but if you can pitch shift it - do it.

The thing about most stringed instruments is that most of their power is an octave above the note they are playing. So that low E at 41hz actually has more energy at 82hz. This is why you are having the trouble. tuning the bass down or pitch shifting will be the option.

That worked a treat, octave down, low pass filter and gain boost was the key.

    Cheers

I don't think you are able to produce an sub bass from a guitar ....Totally different wave sounds. Maybe if you try to pitch the wav but i'm not sure.
