Tascam us-144 mkII won't fire up on Imac

Bought my first Mac the other day. Now I wanted to connect my Tascam US-144 mkII to it, the software installs just fine, but when I connect the Tascam to the Imac, the Imac says it has shut down due to too much energy intake. It's the only way to get the Tascam fired up, cause it has no electric connector.
How can I get it to work?

Try using a powered USB hub and see if that works.

Make sure you have the right drivers. The CD is old.

Hi drumsab, just wondering if you finally got the US144 to work with the iMac as I'm considering getting the same Tascam for my MacBook. Did the powered hub solve it?

Oh, forgot to post here...yes, the powered hub totally solved the problem, everything is running smoothly now!
