Software Pirating is compeletly out of hand

Just a Home Recorder
The nerve of software pirates are killing me now, I didn't know where else to put this, I started to post it in the cave but it is music related... so I thought I'd post it here. Sorry if I posted in the wrong area. What kills me is if your pirating software keep that sh*t to yourself, but to be on public forums sharing where and how to download software, cracks and serial numbers is past idiotic. It pisses me off to know I've recently spent $400 on Propellerhead's Reason and people are discussing how to download it and other programs for free and bypass the security. Offering to send eachother programs and serials on instant messangers, this is part of the reason for a overload of BS music online.

Here are some examples I found just reading through other forums:
This site needs to be shut down and fined IMO for their irresponsibility.

Do you think reporting this to the manufacturers will do any good?

Drives me nuts

So when we download Reaper or n-track and find it's useful, send the guy an extra ten or twenty bucks when you register it. Software developers are like you and me - real people who have car payments to make.

I hate the crack whiz kids. Let'em whizz into the wind. I'll pay for my software because I expect people to pay me for my work, too. If something is too expensive, use a cheaper program. Simple really.

That's a damn good point.

And if people actually bought recording softwares, we would see a drastic decrease of wannabe rappers and wannabe musicians online. I fucking hate them.

People who rip off music, software, etc., do so because they can. If it were possible to steal their phone service, internet service, electricity, heat, gasoline, and groceries, as easily as they rip off digital stuff, they would steal those thibs as well. The internet has revealed how many people are fundamentally dishonest, when they are in no danger of being caught. However,..........

ABINGDON, Va. — A network administrator for a peer-to-peer Internet file-sharing system has been sentenced to five months in prison for copyright infringement.

Grant T. Stanley, 23, was also given five months of home detention, three years of supervised probation and a $3,000 (U.S.) fine for his role in the Elite Torrents service, which used a sharing technology known as BitTorrent. Stanley, who had pleaded guilty to copyright-related charges, was sentenced Oct. 17.

Stanley is one of three people convicted through Operation D-Elite, a federal crackdown on suppliers of pirated works to Elite Torrents, which agents shut down in May 2005.

At one time, the Elite Torrents network had more than 133,000 members and allegedly facilitated the illegal distribution of more than 2 million copies of movies, software, music and games. Federal officials said “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith” was available through Elite Torrents six hours before it even debuted in theaters.

“We hope this case sends the message that cyberspace will not provide a shield of anonymity for those who choose to break our copyright laws,” U.S. Attorney John Brownlee said in a statement."""

5 months? That seems like a slap on the wrist, they should've made a better example out of him to atleast try and deter any other such activity. They should be sure he doesn't have cable TV or internet access during his 5 month home detention now that's punishment.

Just as well. I'd have mentioned that Bush has the technology to stop software pirating, yet chooses not to, because he's like that.

Good thing you didn't do that. :D

and although most people here hate Digidesign and how they force you to use their hardware if you want to record with their software.....I still think it's the most ingenious way of thwarting software pirates.
I still have yet to hear of anyone being able to trick PT into thinking the hardware is actually attached (of course, I don't dwell amongst the pirating community. So I could be mistaken).

Hate to burst your bubble about Pro Tools, but there has been ways around that stuff now for years.
Could it just be that less and less people actually would want to pirate PT??? :D

I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't use PT even if they were offering it as a free download.

i hate the fuckheads.

everyone in my school has a 'recording studio'. ive sold them most of the hardware from my store (or should i say conned them). they all have the same thing- Behringer UB802 mixer, choice of cheapass mic, and rca-1/8 cables..

they are big shots becuase they download software and lick ass crack at making music.

i hate them all. i've invested $17,000 into my studio and everyone thinks that these stupid bitches have 'studios'- always costs under $100, because there mommys won't give them any more than that... i've payed quite a bit for my apps and plugs, its not fair that these dickheads can have the exact thing i do.

i love when someone says they have pro tools and can't get it to work.

bravo to digi for making there software proprietary. gives me SOME individuality.
