Here is the situation:
I have a computer that I purchased through Best Buy that I have been using as my PC. (Recording, Games). I know that in the future I should try to just have a pc for recording and it should be probably customer built, but that is not the situation I am in.
My computer has a problem with and Best Buy is going to let me get a new one, up to the value of my current one ($1079). Here is what I currently have:
AMD Athlon 3000+
1 Gig PC2700 Ram
(Not sure and the bus speed and cache levels)
120 GB ata HD (7200 rpm 8 mb cache)
80 gb ata HD (7200 8 mb cache)
Here is the system I might get:
Gateway
P4 540 with hyper threading
3.2 ghz
1 gig 3200 ram
800 mhz front side bus
1 mb L2 cache
200 mb serial ata HD
I will be using an Audiophile 2496 and Delta 66 with this system. If I get the Gateway, I will probably add another serial HD.
Is this Gateway system an upgrade from my current machine? I usually perfer Athlon based systems but I am not reall a die hard either way.
