New PC build

First, my apologies if there is a dedicated thread for this kind of discussion. If there is I couldn't find it.

Anyhow,

As my projects get more intense my laptop is cutting it less and less. Finally time for the new computer I think. What do you all think about this? I'd love to get some feedback before I order.

I'll be using this for Reason 6.5 and ProTools 10. And with a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 once I get that.

Thanks a lot.

I would run that list past the guys at Sound On Sound | Recording Techniques | Audio Technology | Music Production | Computer Music | Video Media before committing Ffud.

My take on home builds, having read many threads and articles, boils down to this..
IF you REALLY know what you are doing (which you don't since you are asking!) you can build and debug a really fast and powerful machine for somewhat less than one from a specialist maker. But you are of course always on your own and have a collection of non-related parts that you cannot really know or test.

The price gap between a stonking home build and a stonking "store bought" is much narrower these days and the peace of mind to the user of the latter incalculable.

But then, many folks get enormous pleasure from the building process and there is nowt wrong with that!

Dave.

Thanks for the responses guys.

RWhite, I would agree that I think it should be fairly future proof for a while at least. My main/only real concern at this point is will Pro Tools run on it happily with that graphics card. Any experience/knowledge there? Avid's system requirements are weird and say they want Quadro cards, but I've heard that's not really necessary and the one I'm looking at gets similar benchmarks and is newer/has more memory so I think it'd be good right?

Dave, I think I'm confident I can figure it out. I wanna do my own build so I can really get it exactly how I want it. I also have a buddy who is gonna help who really knows his stuff.

Thanks again

...and I did post in SOS and Gearslutz forums already. Hopefully I'll hear something from them as well.

This all looks good to me (for a reference point, I've built a couple of my own computers), but the only thing I'm not diggin' is that Seagate drive.
Their HDD manufacturing place in Taiwan flooded around a year or so ago, and they're still selling those drives... So that thing may fail you within a year or two. I'd suggest Western Digital's Caviar Black if you're using the drive to store audio files; those drives are designed for tasks like recording and editing video/audio/photos, etc.

Where do these theories come from, what makes you thing that they dried out the drives and sold them?

Since you did not list your monitor, I would suggest using a dual display. A couple of 19" or 21" can be got for less than $300 and would make your workflow much easier to map out.
