hey can any of you recommend me to a monitor under 400 that has all of these requirements and is pretty descent?\
Frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kilo-Hertz
Volume or gain control
Acoustically designed box with padding inside
Should take all common types of plugs or jack inputs
Should come with shielded cable to plug it in to the amp
If it has a tweeter, check the cross-over frequency for woofer/tweeter.
It
should not be too low like less than 1 kilo-hertz.
Check if the cross over is an active or a passive cross-over, if it
needs a
power supply or not. Passive are cheaper, do not require power.
Check if it has a built-in amplifier. Go with the kind that does not
have
an amplifier built-in. It would be cheaper if it does not require a
power
supply it also decreases the chances of electro-magnetic resonance
which may
induce 50 to 60 Hertz power-line hum. Unshielded power lines can
generate
noise.
