I record using sony sound forge on my laptop. At the moment im using a behringer ultravoice mic pluged into the input of my ultragain pro then the output is going straight into my laptop mic in.
Im pretty sure that is wrong and the mic should be the output but i dont seem to have any way of doing that with the leads i have.
Im sure there is something i can plug it into as well as the preamp to then go to the laptop, would that sourt out the noise?

Mic inputs on laptops are for crappy $5 computer mics, not for inputing the line out of a preamp.

What you need is a seperate audio interface that has line inputs and a USB or Firewire output to your computer.
 
you probably blew your mic input circuit too...
