I'd gladly jump to Linux or NT in a heartbeat if either of 'em were more mature for audio and had better compatibility lists for hardware. Since that's not the case, I'm sticking with the greater of the evils for now.
Always remember that your PC will be an expensive paperweight in only a couple of years' time. Nothing else in your studio is going to depreciate that much. I can't justify spending a lot on the PC when it won't be "the hottest thing" for very long. Your cash is yours to spend however you want, however
