Dumping tracks from Korg D16

I record on a Korg D16 stand-alone recorder, but I am interested in getting a good soundcard/breakout/software package to record on. Specifically, I like recording my drums (8 tracks simultaneously) to the Korg since I can put the unit next to me behind my drums and be my own "engineer". I want to be able to transfer these tracks one at a time, either by the optical stereo out or the analog stereo out, to a computer system (maybe Cakewalk, maybe Vegas).

I don't know much about midi, but I see in the manual that my Korg will send and receive MMC. There is also a "sync" window with options for midi out including MTC30 and Midiclock.

So, is it possible to take the tracks from my Korg, one at a time, and sync them into a recording program? Does the midi cable from the Korg plug into the soundcard or does the breakout box need to have a midi port?

Any good suggestions on a recording package that supports both audio and midi. Also needs to have optical digital input (stereo).

Thanks much
