15 inch laptop plus external screen for home studio.

I am working with Cubase. Obviously I need much more screen space than the laptop's screen. What size of screen do you recommend for Cubase to work comfortably? I would like to be able to have a couple of plugins on screen, plus the mixer and still be able to see my transport and be able to have a few tracks zoomed to a decent size.

Also what kind of configuration would work? External screen side by side or above the laptop? Any ideas?

As big as you can afford. Actually it's not so much size, it's the resolution that it supports that gets you more real esate.

I find side by side works best as I can drag things across from one screen to another in a natural action.... that's not really going to work with a laptop however - but you'll get used to whatever your configuration is.
