What a scare!

I was importing a bunch of tracks from a live concert CD I burned the other night and the edits were going fine. I wanted to move the first 5 finished cuts to my external CDRW via S/PDIF playback, so I could wipe the HD and do the next CD. Every attempt failed. When I hit record on the CDRW the sample rate of playback dropped to one quarter speed! As well, Vegas Pro, Sound Forge, CW and Winamp all played everything at this new sample rate, while displaying the nominal rate at which each file was recorded. I desperately searched around for some setting to change to fix it. Even tried the cold reboot. No luck. Even the system sounds were playing back at this new sample rate! The only thing that fixed it was playing a RealAudio stream streamed from KDVS. Whew!
Any ideas on what happened?

That's pretty scary alright. No idea, but I have found Realplayer can take over a system pretty good. Sounds like time for the ritual reformat/reinstall :)

I was having this problem with CEP and I never figured out why.
