virtual sounds

I just imported a .mid file into protools and found I had to use virtual instruments in protools in order to hear anything.... Is there a way to get different virtual instruments to play in protools, like those in Finale (Garrison). And it looks like a midi keyboard will not play. So if we were to make a home recording what software is available that sounds good to record with? That is when you do not have the analog sounds from a live band. . .?

Google "Free VSTi" and kock yerself out... or you can buy sound libraries, but there's enough freebies out there to give you an idea of what's possible.

You know that a MIDI file is just instructions, don't you? No audio involved.
