Using non-dedicated Windows 10 PC as DAW?

Just finished a year and a half project on a musical, using my Windows 10 computer with Audacity as my main DAW. I have also used it as my daily computer, with no appreciable problems either way. Maybe I'm just lucky!

I think some of it comes down to what you consider a "daily computer"..

I've had no problems using the same Windows 10 computer I have for audio for things like email, web browsing, word processing etc. (all using respected conventional software.

However, I have a wife and a 12 year old son who download every piece of shit they're offered, without checking the provenance or even if they really need it. Unsurprisingly, both have computer problems with slow operation, freezing, etc. etc., all things that would make serious audio work difficult.
