Using a computer monitor other then a Mac's monitor.

I think this is a valid forum for this question, I guess.

Can I use a computer monitor from an inde company to work with an Apple computer. If I get a Mac I don't want to spend $1,000 on a 17" flat pannel monitor. That's how much Apple is charging for their monitor. So, can Apple computers work with different brands of monitors, I know it will be cheaper if I avoid Apple's monitors.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you can, you may need a converter though...

PC monitors use a 15-pin DSUB HD (Hi Density) connector (15 pins, in 3 rows)

and Some macs use a plain 15Pin DSUB (15 pins in 2 rows)

I'm not sure about the new macs, they may have standard HD connectors since they have either an ATI or GeForce video card.

Best bet is to go to a Mac shop, and peek and poke around the back.
