usb/hardware problems?

Added Hardware to my Recording setup and have trouble.
I have downloaded the latest drivers for all hardware.
The problem is once everything is started it will run fine for about ten minutes. Then it seems to overload the CPUmeter in Sonar goes full and everything locks up. Laptop gets very HOT.
my usual recording is only Two to Three tracks at a time.
could this be a USB problem.
also if iam forced to buy a new computer it will probably be a Desktop
what is the best thing to look for in specs in the usb port area.

Akai MPD18
Novation Remote Zero sl

You don't say how much ram you have or what OS you are running.
Also, what are you doing when it locks up? Recording? mixing how many tracks are you using?
The Laptop should be up to the job it's a dual core and fairly new.

Laptop get's very hot you say.
Are the fans obstructed?

Could just be overheating and freezing up due to something that simple.
This probably wouldn't happen under light load.
