USB to Firewire adapter - can this work?

Hey, all. Through a roundabout set of circumstances, I'm finding myself wanting to connect my Mackie Onyx 1220i to a laptop that has no Firewire ports, nor an Expresscard slot to add one. But it does have USB3.

There seem to be a number of USB3-to-FW adapters out there (ex: Firewire IEEE 1394 6 Pin Male to USB A Male Adapter M-M - Newegg.com). But I've had weird luck with sucky FW chipsets (Ricoh, VIA), so I know that this stuff is sensitive. And I have a hard time believing that they're cramming a quality (e.g. TI) FW chipset into that tiny dongle.

Has anybody tried one of these, and if so, did it have any impact on latency or throughput? Usable for audio?
