Upgrade to 768mb or 1.25gb of RAM!?!?!

I just bought my "studio" laptop last night:

HP zv6000
15.4" WGXA Brightview
Athlon 64 3200+
256mb PC 2700 RAM (hence the question)
60gig 5400rpm Hard Drive (I also have a 160gig 7200 External FW)
128mb XPRESS 200m w/Hypermemory (dedicated memory)
Internal Wireless G

All for $617 AR  :D

Anyway, I chose 256mb of RAM instead of 512 or a 1gig because it was expensive coming from HP. I understand that more ram would be "better" but would it be worth it? I'm a "ROCKER" but only record one track at a time.

So would it be worth spending another $50 on getting a 1gig stick as opposed to a 512mb one?

If it's only $50 bucks different, go all out and get the 1 gig. Either way you'll want more than 256, so just save for the extra 50 and go 1.25gb, that way you're sure not to regret it at any level.

Well, actually, it looks to be another $70 or so. Unless I can find a "hot deal".

Don't buy beer and cigarettes for a week and you'll be able to save the extra 20. the 768 should be enough to handle most anything you throw at it but I dunno, I'd always feel that "I could have had" thing going on if I didn't do the 1.25.

1 gig dude. All the F'in way! It's nice having it; I never thought it would make that much difference, but I think it does now, after finally doing it.

ummm.........

I gues you have determined you can put unequal sticks in at the same time?

some require 2x256's for 512 or one 512, or 2x512 for 1 gig, or 1 single 1 gig, like you can't use 512+256+128+128 to make up one gig. some have the first bit soldered into the motherboard, and it does'nt matter. do you know whats in it now? it's not two 128's is it?

something you also probably know is that may notebooks use a notebook formfactor ram, that cost's a little more. (my dell does for instance)

otherwise, the more the better, usually.

Crap...I never thought about that. It may in fact have TWO 128mb stick in it, although I doubt it...haha. I'll know once I finally get it.

1gb it is!

Thanks!
