Can any one tell me how many bytes / track / minute are required for a digital recorder operating at 44.1kHz and 16 or 24bit?

I figure about 5 Million bytes/minute/track at 16 but a am not sure about overhead etc.

thanks

Ha-don't I wish. 40 years ago they didn't have SD cards. I am trying to estimate what I need to get thru a concert-the last time we played we ran around 45 minutes straight on one work--

Ah, I see. Asking the question in bytes just seemed kinda academic. ;)

Here, I found a chart that lists file sizes for the various birates and frequencies.

Seems 5meg/minute@16bit 44.1 was about right, but keep in mind you need to double that for stereo recording.
Hope that's useful to ya.

Hey thanks. I got used to being specific about bytes vs bits back when I worked in telecomm---often people wouldn't specify and you could be off by a factor of 8 (or 10 in the old async days). Played havoc on line usage.

I guess the convention is kb=kilobits and kB=kilobytes but it gets interchanged a lot.

Looks like recording Beethoven's 6th on 4 tracks is still fits on a 2GB SD card with room to spare!

Thanks Again
