S/PDIF Digital I/O connector

Hi there,

well I want to make my thread a general one about S/PDIF. I want to know what can I do with this connector. I have in mind that it has something to do with AC3 and DTS. But what is the benefit if my soundcard (ESI Quatafire 610) has an S/PDIF or if a mixing console has a S/PDIF?

thanks for the answers

When you connect a device via S/pdif you are doing the conversion at the source device. So, if you had a CD recorder, you could run S/pdif out of that into a consumer sound card and bypass the most likely inferior converters in the consumer card by using the s/pdif connection.

Just remember that when connecting two digital devices you have to slave one to the other, or to a common source to prevent pops, clicks, etc.
