Sound Font Questions

I was curious about which sound fonts people are using, my GM sounds are getting old fast.

So, any suggestions for soundfonts titles for the various instruments:

Piano
Bass
Cello
String Section

and a good synth lead tone like Jens Johansen has on the early Yngwie albums.

Any other good soundfonts to try would also be greatly appreciated!

There are many soundfont sites on the web. Use a search engine and search for "soundfonts."

soundfonts.com
soundfont.com
are just two

hammersound.com is excellent

Read the following articles by Ethan Winer. Actually I emailed Ethan and asked him what soundfonts he used and he graciously emailed a CD with "Ethan's" soundfonts and notes included. These are soundfonts he has collected over time and the collection is quite extensive. I believe he will do this for other people, also. Ethan is a kind, generous soul.

thanks for the reply!

I have most of those sites bookmarked and have downloaded quite a few soundfonts, most of which I really didnt think sounded anything like they were 'advertised'. That's why I was wondering about the actual fonts that people use and like. An example would be that I use the Drums by Slavo Acoustic set soundfont for my drums. I use the Kick-Arse Bass fonts for my bass sounds. I would like to find a pretty good piano and string section font... but all of the sites have dozens upon dozens and I was hoping to not have to download all of them.
