i would like to record my voice and a keyboard in an application called ACID.i only have a $10 computer mic. and an ordinary windows souncard.
I tried to record with a regular $50(analog) mic but the recording sounded very low,it was unuseable. i have not tried the keyboard yet ,but i assume it will do the same thing.

what is wrong with my soundcard?

in a word absolutely nothing.

For a mic to be put straight into a soundcard you need something to bring the signal up to "line level". for mics a small preamp such as a Joe Meek VC3 or even a simple direct box will do this. Also meak sure your card is set to a decent sample rate.

Computer mics are different. they are cheap rubbish in comparison to audio mics and operate on a different signal level.
