Currently I am recording and controlling my monitors thru a PV8 analog mixer using the onboard sound I/O of my laptop (it works but doesnt sound good)

I use cubase extensively so I would think I want to stick with steinberg hardware too. I am currently in college so the 2 ch sounds like a better idea but then I will be done college JAN 2013.. After college, I wanted the capability of recording 8 ins (live drummer) if I had to... and the 8 ch one is only a few more $100 than the 2 ch version so itd be kind of dumb to buy both... So what should I do:

*Keep using what I have until I graduate, and then buy an 8ch interface
*Buy a 2 ch interface now and use it until I actually get in a situation where I need 8 ins
*Buy the 8 ch interface now and use it for everything

the interfaces I'm considering are:

Steinberg UR28M
Steinberg UR824

thanks!

Basic advice:

"Always get more in/outs than you THINK you'll need."

Invariably you'll just need a couple more and you can't just add more channels on or combine interfaces unless they are built to do so.

First thing you know you'll be wantin' to do hardware inserts on your DAW..
